Preparing to start

Bramham Park Fun Run 2014

Now is the time to prepare for the 16th annual Bramham Park Fun Run in aid cancer research based at St James hospital, Leeds.

The event offers a choice of 5Km and 10km circuits covering a variety of terrains using tarmac roads, paths and farm tracks through the park. Both routes are entirely within the park and offer beautiful surroundings and views. Everyone who participates really enjoys it.

The organiser, Ann Newton, says: "The event is increasing in popularity every year, everyone is welcome to participate, the 10Km offers a challenge for serious runners, the 5Km is particularly suited to occasional runners and families who want to walk. Anyone who wishes to remember a relative or friend, who has been affected by cancer, can make a statement in support by wearing something pink."

This years' event is again sponsored by local Estate and Letting Agents, Beadnall Copley which means that all the money raised by participants will go directly to Cancer Research UK.

Andrew Beadnall says: "I am both honoured and thrilled to be asked yet again to sponsor this wonderful event which has grown tremendously in recent years, raising funds for Cancer Research UK. Last year's event was our best so far and attracted around 700 people who to date have helped to raise over £15,500 which is double the amount collected in 2012. Sadly cancer affects one in three of us and all of us know of someone who has suffered or is currently undergoing treatment".

"I urge everyone to get involved in 2014 as we are setting a big target of over 1,000 participants and hope to raise over £20,000. Remember, you don't have to be a top athlete to take part. However you get round the 5km or 10km circuits will be an amazing achievement and help eradicate this evil disease. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday 5th October".

Once again this year we will be supporting Prof Alan Melcher's research at St James hospital, Leeds into how viruses such as herpes can be used in the treatment of cancers. Click here for a report on Alan Melcher's research
